Dodge County Middle School would like to congratulate Mr. Larry “Petey” Peterson for being selected as Dodge County’s Special Educator of the Year.  Mr. Peterson has taught at DCMS for 27 years, all of which have been in special education.  He currently teaches the Severe/Profound self-contained classroom.  He serves as a Junior Beta Club sponsor, a member of the DCMS Activities Committee and the Dodge County Special Olympics Committee.  Mr. Peterson holds a Specialist Degree in Teacher Leadership from GA Southwestern and State University.

He has been married to his wife, Kim for 22 years.  They have two daughters: Kelsey, 20 and Kaylee, 16.  Peterson enjoys spending time with his family riding four-wheelers and vacationing at the beach.  He is an avid fan of all Dodge County sports and serves as the voice of Lady Indians Softball where he broadcasts each game for DCHS.

Affectionately known as “Petey”, he truly enjoys his job and loves the opportunity of having his students all three years in middle school.  He feels that he gets to know them and plays an integral part in their lives.  His goal is to give his students the best possible education and most enjoyable time at school they can have. Peterson loves teaching students with disabilities and strives to make sure each day is a positive one in their lives.
