On Thursday, March 12, several students from Dodge County High School attended the ICAN Conference at the Little Ocmulgee State Park. The student conference was designed to build self-determination skills through various sessions, including Student Led IEPs, Money and Budgeting, Marketing Yourself, Technology Tools, and College Readiness.
The participating students stated that they learned about new apps and technological tools to be successful in the future, money management and preparation techniques for college, interview skills, and what constitutes professional attire for interviews.
This student conference was hosted by the Heart of Georgia Transition Alliance. This organization’s goals are to increase the number of students with disabilities who graduate high school and enter the workforce, improve the IEP and Transition Planning process, and develop a culture among schools and employers in which individuals will be educated and employed based on their abilities.
The students learned how to manage money and prepare for college. Interview skills and proper business attire were also presented to the students. Students were introduced to technological tools, such as new mobile device apps, to help them be successful in the future.
