On January 8, 1989, the actor Tom Cruise was stopped for speeding in the small Georgia town of McRae with his then wife, Mimi Rogers. Although Cruise was not arrested, but was issued a warning instead, the incident received a great deal of publicity in weekly newspapers in the area. Celebrity misbehavior is nothing new in American society, and this was a very minor error on Cruise’s part. The incident, which was brought to light on a recent Facebook post, got me to thinking—what if a major movie star was arrested in a small town and accused of a twenty-five-year-old murder? What if he was held prisoner by a conspiracy of town folks, who wanted to use his celebrity as a way to bring tourists and help the town’s faltering economy? What if the actor became a willing participant in the plot? Welcome to Flighty Jo Jones!– By Nick Wynne
The Eastman Examiner is proud to announce we have 10 copies of this book on-hand for the low price of $17.95. I am very proud to be able to offer this book, as I was the Officer that stopped Tom Cruise in McRae. One word of caution – the book is not ABOUT the traffic stop or Tom Cruise. This book was only INSPIRED by the event. I have read it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
